 Founded in 1940  The American Diabetes Association is the leading fight against diabetes and fighting for people who already have diabetes  The association funds research, delivers services to hundreds of communities and fights for those who are denied rights because of their condition

 The ADA offers membership to both Consumers and health professionals  Consumer membership is designed for people with the disease as well as family members and caregivers  Professional membership provides doctors, nurses, educators and researchers with the latest news and breakthroughs in diabetic research

 Describes the major types of diabetes: pre- diabetes, type 1, type2, and gestational diabetes  Gives information and tips to those who have been recently diagnosed  Provides a diabetes risk test  Also a question and answer section all about diabetes

 What can diabetics eat?  A food advisor to help make wise eating decisions and habits. Also the ability to ask a nutritionist  Weight loss help  Cookbooks and recipes

 The ADA research program supports basic and clinical diabetes aimed at preventing, treating and curing diabetes  Support has increased from $18 million in 1999 to $42.5 million in 2008  The ADA research funding program is designed to complement the National Institutes of health (NIH) by supporting new investigators and new ideas
