Lesson 7-5 Pages Fractions, Decimals, and Percents

What you will learn! How to write percents as fractions, and vice versa. (Introduced in Chapter 5)

What you really need to know! In lesson 5-5, you wrote percents like 32% as fractions by writing fractions with denominators of 100 and then simplifying. You can use the same method to write percents like 16.8% and 8 1/3 % as fractions.

What you really need to know! 1.Divide by 100 to remove a % sign. 2.Multiply by 100 to attach a % sign.

Example 1: In a recent poll, 41.8% of the people surveyed said they gained nutrition knowledge from family and friends. What fraction is this? Write in simplest form.

Example 2: Write 12 ½ % as a fraction in simplest form.

Example 3: In one shipment of fruit to a grocery store, 5 out of 8 bananas were still green. Find this amount as a percent.

Example 4: Write 5/12 as a percent. Round to the nearest hundredth.

Example 5: Write 9/20 as a percent.

Example 5: Write 3/7 as a percent. Round to the nearest hundredth.
