The Private (Free) Enterprise System – oh how I love thee! Its all about me… the customer! And its all about… the Entrepreneur! This Unit helps us understand how our country has developed as a nation that not only encourages enterprise, but also protects businesses, workers, and consumers through various government agencies. The United States of America – what a great place to do business!

TEAM ACTIVITY “Helping hands of the Government” Your assigned team will investigate a government agency, prepare a report to be presenting to class that describes the agency, highlights a recent news article on the agency and what it has been investigating, along with such information as who is the head of the agency, where the main office is located, and interesting facts that you discovered. INDIVIDUAL TASKS Chapter 5 – Utilizing the web site listed in #13 on Page 132, investigate this site, discussing on paper what it does, the different types of patents, noting differences. Chapter 6 – Utilizing the web, complete #12 on Page 156, research and report, addressing the noted bullets.

Situation: Assume the role of employee of a recently opened cleaning service business. You have solid business experience and are experienced in the services provided by your new employer. The business provides a wide assortment of cleaning services targeted to a broad variety of businesses. The business offers cleaning services ranging from display window cleaning to daily interior cleaning and trash disposal. The business has been open for one month. Business has been good and cleaning contracts have exceeded the plan. The business owner has asked you to help prepare a newspaper advertisement for the business. The purpose of the advertisement is to announce the opening of the business and the services your business provides. A fellow employee who has little business experience asks you why the business is planning an advertisement when the business is doing well. Activity: You are to briefly explain to the employee the role of advertising and promotion ad the role they play in a business’s overall marketing strategy.
