Regional Safety and Occupation Health Program (SOH) Council Meeting August 2006

Agenda Introductions Discussion Topics --- Establish a formal Drug and Alcohol Action Council. Council would be made up of members of the Regional Safety Council. --- Need for commands to provide copies of their appointment letters to the Safety Officer.

Agenda (cont.) --- Holiday Safety: --- Discuss feasibility of conducting a safety stand down in before the end of the year to address annual safety training requirements, prior to the Holiday period. Approach Admiral Burke for support.

Agenda (cont.) --- Fitness Reports for Military and Civilians. HRO --- Develop a Personal Risk Assessment Survey. Make it part of the Regional Indoc Course. --- Discuss Accident and Injury Trends Occurring in the Region since the previous council meeting. --- Discuss inspections conducted and results/trends.

Current Traffic Safety Trends Tough year for Motor Vehicle Accidents – 117 as of 17 Aug Put out traffic info sheet to safety reps As a region we have had few issues – Mature Population Still need to emphasize safety - 3 ORM Principles – Broadcast on Regional Safety Scroller & Safety Board Don’t Drink and Drive Don’t Drive Fatigued Wear Your Seat Belts Seat Belt Checks are being conducted periodically with pretty good results. Last two were 92.6% and 100%, - passenger emphasis important!

Current RODS TRENDS FOR THE REGION: Basketball 6* Bicycles 2 Off-Duty 1 Softball 1 Football 1 Rugby 1* * Resulted in surgery Total lost man days to date: 26

INSPECTIONS: Public Safety Inspection conducted by CNI in February. Resulted in authorization to create a new public safety position which has been filled. Mr. Lovering has been assigned as the sponsor. Will be responsible for: Emergency Response Fire Protection Occupational Safety and Health CBRE NAVY Env. & Prev. Med Unit 6 Pearl Harbor IH survey – Ergonomics, issues in N6, RF hazard markings, Hg and RF exposure in dental and potential exposures to heavy metals originating from the shipyard.

ISSUES PENDING Outstanding Hazard Abatement Plan Items: One emergency light ooc in Contracting Security issue at the clinic Phone system issue at the clinic Eye wash station in N6* Recently one worker experienced electrical shock Other items: Heat in the gym Major Renovation Projects – 7- 4 Trees in the housing area Continue with training initiatives H5N1 Bird Flu Virus New policy about skateboards, scooters, or skates
