Lectures and Discussion Sessions Lectures last 1h15, plus some time for questions – Please don’t be shy to ask questions, even if they seem basic! Six Discussions Groups – Each student is assigned to a Group We have posted the list of students in each Group; please check which Group you are in You received a map when you checked-in at the School Registration desk Please make sure you know the location of the room for your Group – Discussion Leader stays with the same group for the full two weeks – Lecturers are invited to visit the groups Help answer detailed questions on their courses – Discussion sessions should be driven by questions from the students Please make note of points that you did not understand in the lectures or other questions that you might have Make use of the handouts given before each lecture

Group Projects Members of each Discussion Group will do a collaborative project – Based on reading and discussing a published paper from a particle- physics experiment – A representative of each Group will give a brief summary on behalf of their Group in a special session on the evening of Thursday 25 October Session will be chaired by John Ellis Audience will include students, teaching staff, organizers, committee members Coordination of preparations: – Kazunori Hanagaki, Kiyotomo Kawagoe and Martijn Mulders More details will be given tomorrow morning – No need to do anything before then

Please! Lectures and discussion sessions – Attendance is compulsory – Arrive on time – No laptop computers – No use of phones or other mobile communications devices

Meals Meals are organized on a self-service basis – Food for those with special diets is available Talk to secretariat in case of problems – Meals are served in the dining room indicated on the map that you received when you checked in If you eat in the regular hotel restaurants you will be charged according the prices shown on the menu!

What you have to pay for The School Fee includes – The accommodation – Breakfast, lunch and dinner – only in the specified dining room! – Coffee breaks – served outside the auditorium, see timetable – Excursions, etc. as advertised in the Information Bulletin You must pay yourselves for anything that is not included in the fee – Please pay in cash for any purchases or services that you use, such as: Drinks Snacks Laundry service

Free time activities (examples) Walks along the coastal path – At end of the hotel grounds Nature park on other side of the highway – Entrance fee 400 Yen Aquarium – Entrance fee 2100 Yen Tennis courts – Near hotel, please ask Secretariat about the fees

Some words of caution Swimming is not allowed – The water is cold – It is strictly forbidden to swim in the sea near the hotel! – Also the pool is not available for use at this time of year Phones – Use of mobile phones on roaming can be very expensive, even for receiving calls! Very expensive can mean several USD per minute! – Also data access on roaming can be extremely expensive
