Example of a Tier 2 Behavioral Intervention Check In / Check Out Non-responders enrolled based on universal data method Morning check in with preferred adult Periodic check in classroom teacher Points dispensed based on behavior Afternoon checkout with preferred adult Reward for 80% of points earned (Home-school note) Lots of Adult Attention

Effective Intervention : Poor Match

Example of the Importance of Function Investigation of Check In / Check Out Literature Examination of studies revealed that students whose behavior was attention maintained were more likely to respond Students whose behavior was escape maintained required adaptations to the standard protocol Need to think functionally to match interventions with need; there is no standard Tier 3 intervention
