2 Relative location Absolute location Terrain Elevation Movement Geography Pakistan is the same size as Texas and Oklahoma combined Southern Asia, bordering the Arabian Sea, India is on the East and Iran and Afghanistan on the West and China to the North N, E Flat Indus plains in the East; mountains in North and Northwest; Baluchistan plateau in West. Lowest point: Indian Ocean 0 m Highest point: K2 (Mt. Godwin-Austen) 8,611 m. Transportation in non-city like places are donkeys and horse drawn carts, and transportation in the city are taxis, buses, mini buses, and motorized rickshaws also transportation is on the left side of the rode.

3 History The people of India wanted their own self government and to move away from British control. India, at that time, had people that either practiced Hindu or Muslim. In 1947, the two nations were formed -India and Pakistan. The Muslim people stayed in Pakistan. East Pakistan declared independence in 1971 after war with West Pakistan. They wanted to break apart because their languages and life style’s were different. East Pakistan is now Bangladesh. West Pakistan is now Pakistan Benazir Bhutto became the first female Prime Minister of Pakistan and to head a Muslim Government. 4 Economy Pakistan is a developing country. Pakistan’s infant mortality rate is Pakistan’s currency Pakistan’s life expectancy is years old. The number of people who own cars in Pakistan is 8 per 100 people. Pakistan’s GDP per capita is $2,600 and the U.S.A.’s per capita is $49,000. The percent of people between the ages of birth and 14 is 37%. 43.4% of Pakistani’s workers are in agriculture. Chief products are wheat, cotton, rice, and sugar cane

5 Politics Pakistan’s type of government is Federal Republic. The President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari Pakistan’s has three branches like the U.S. Executive Branch, Judicial Branch and Legislative Branch. The head of state is a President and the head of government is a Prime Minister. The Legislature is made up of two houses of Parliament, the Senate and the National Assembly. The current Prime Minister is Syed Yousef Raza Gilani who took over after Prime Minister Bhutto was assignated. The current President is Asif Ali Zardari.

6 Culture The main religion is Muslim. 97% of Pakistanis are Muslims. Urdu Writing Pakistani's like chapati which is a type of pita bread and is an important part of their meal. Their favorite spice is curry, and they eat yogurt and rice at many meals. They also like, pillau, a fried rice with vegetables. Western-style of clothing is being worn in Pakistan. Men usually wear turbans and women wear shalwar qameez (a dress). Holidays include Pakistan day March 23rd, Labor day May 1st, Independence day August 14th, and Ramadan. English is one of Pakistani’s official language and is taught in schools. The other language being used is Urdu which is their native language.

8 Interesting Facts In Pakistan, it is inappropriate to shake hands with a girl if they are not in close relation. Pakistan’s favorite sports are cricket, field hockey, and squash. Pakistani workers working outside the country and send money back home is an important source of revenue for them. The Markhor is a very big wild goat, and it’s the national animal of Pakistan. Pakistan’s government has been ruled by mostly Military. Pakistan’s national Animal, Markhor The white on Pakistan’s flag represents minorities and the green represents the Muslim majority.
