Why Teach Geography?

5 Themes of Geography

First of all…. What is Geography?  Geography- The study of the physical earth and how humans interact with it.

Human-Environment Interaction  How do humans and the environment affect each other?  We depend on it.  People depend on the environment around them for many different things. (food, clothes, transportation, etc.)  We modify it.  People modify our environment by heating and cooling buildings for comfort.  We adapt to it.  We adapt to the environment by wearing clothing suitable for the weather.  How do humans and the environment affect each other?  We depend on it.  People depend on the environment around them for many different things. Movement  How are people, goods, and ideas moved from place to place?  Human Movement  Trucks, Trains, Planes, and Cars  Information Movement  Phones, Computer, Mail,  Idea Movement  How do fads move from place to place? TV, Radio, Magazines, and Social Media.  This movement of ideas, people, and goods has caused the world to become interdependent.
