Things I Need to Succeed: What Students Are Saying “Why set goals? Because if you’re aiming for nowhere that’s just where you’ll go!”

Positive Adult Influence Find someone who you can trust to treat you with respect. Ask yourself: Can I talk to this person without fear of him/her gossiping? Does this person appreciate me for who I am? Is this person someone others respect?

Good Education for a Good Job Realize that YOU CAN learn Take school seriously because it is your key to a great future Having an education empowers you to make better choices Having an education allows you more freedoms in your life Having an education gives you power over your own life

Doing the Best I Can on What Needs Done Is my work done correctly? Would my effort be worth getting paid? Is the work average or above average? Does my work really reflect the type of person I really am? Are your truly proud of your effort and finished product?

Take Pride in Your Appearance Did I follow acceptable hygiene practices within the last 24 hours? (shower/bath, teeth, hair, etc.) Am I concerned about my overall health? (eating right, exercising, sleeping enough?) Am I staying away from harmful substances? (smoking, alcohol, drugs)

Good Grades Am I using my agenda to keep myself organized? Am I studying enough to know the material? Am I asking for help when I need it? Am I keeping at least a “C” average? Am I focused and listening in class?

Pay Attention Am I causing distractions in class and causing others to lose their attention? Am I focused on what is being taught? Am I talking about things not related to class? Did I hear the directions correctly? Am I thinking about what I am hearing?

“We All Have Choices” Do I consider the consequences of my choices? Do I follow others in a direction I don’t want for my life? Am I regretting my choices more often than being happy with them? Am I proud of my choices?

Are You Confident? Am I confident about taking tests? (That means you are ready.) Is your lifestyle something that brings you confidence or fear? Does your confidence bring pride/joy? Do you speak up for yourself? Do you give permission to others to control you?

Self-Control and Self-Respect Stop, think, what could happen? Is that what you want? Are you in control of your emotions or are they controlling you? Are you the kind of person you would be proud to be with? Do you actions reflect the type of person you know others would respect?
