Retractable Techniques in fibre optic infrastructures Öner Özemre – Telecom Sales Regional Manager TLC 19th – 20th April 2012

The Installer dream….

The basic principle Step 1 The Stripping Tool has been designed to safely cut the windows on the Riser Cable. If used properly, it cannot damage the fibre units. Step 1 On a higher floor cut the selected fibre module 1st window cut: “pick window” (Typical 20 m) Step 2 On the subscriber’s floor pull back the selected fibre module Optical Line Termination 2nd window cut: “extraction window”

The basic principle 5 Easy Steps 1 2 3 4 5 LAY the RetractaCable from Distribution Point along the Homes. OPEN the RetractaCable in front of the homes to connect. CUT the desired fibre module in the first next (from DP) opened cable spot. PULL the cut fibre module out (retract), in case the length is > 50 meter a tool can be used for retracting, storage and pushing or blowing. PUSH and/or BLOW the retracted fibre module through a drop duct up to the home. 1 LAY 2 OPEN 3 CUT 4 PULL 5 PUSH/BLOW

Specific tools Cutting tools to perform a window cut to access the modules 5

Specific tools Picking tool to cut the module inside the cable at 1.5m from the jacket window 6

The basic principle Two ways to extract fibre modules Cut the fibre module one home further and splice the fibres in the home. Cut the fibre module 1.5m from the home and splice the fibres at the tap-off point

Retractable solutions Designed for Indoor and OSP Reduction of 15 to 30% on installation time Extremely Compact (i.e. 720fo cable with 16mm O.D.) No cable loop, very small closures, prefab. manholes Ideal for installation in existing / new duct infrastructures or in soft soil. The simplicity of the concept reduces the need for skilled labour Extremely efficient in both brownfield & greenfield sites G.657A2/B2 fibres The RetractaNetXS Solution for OSP applications reflects Draka’s continued commitment to bringing new technologies, concepts, and innovation to the FTTH marketplace.
