Megalopolis- region in which several large cities and surrounding areas grow together North Atlantic Drift- Ocean current responsible for temperate climate on east coast

Midwest Situated in the middle part of the USA It is a major agricultural hub It is also known as the nation ’ s “ bread basket ” Cities such as Chicago, Detroit, Cleveland, St. Louis, and others are situated near major waterways to move the crops However, farms are declining and more people are doing service jobs

The South Most people think of the “ Old South ” with the confederacy and southern charm The south is very industrial and agricultural today Farming, ranching, electronics, petroleum, textiles, steel are produced The warm weather has made the south favorable for many to retire too A/C has made this region livable Gulf Stream- Warm current that keeps gulf states climate warmer and more humid

The West The west is very diverse land It was a rough area during the 1800 ’ s and early 1900 ’ s Gold in 1849 brought many to California and then to other areas Today the West has a water problem that is being addressed (irrigation and droughts) Trading with Asia has helped with technology in the West

ECONOMY The United States accounts for more than 10 percent of the world ’ s EXPORTS, which are goods sold to another country. The U.S. economy is run largely on FREE ENTERPRISE, an economic system in which private individuals own most of the resources, technology, and businesses. How does the state of the economy affect our every day lives?
