 Graduated from Queens University, Belfast  Graduated in Law  Worked as a Barrister and Journalist with RTÉ

 Served as the eighth President of Ireland  1997 – 2011  Second female President succeeding Mary Robinson  First President to come from Northern Ireland or Ulster  Theme of Presidency “Building Bridges”

 March 2011 she invited Queen Elizabeth to Ireland  Visit took place from May 17 th – 20 th 2011  The first state visit by a British monarch ever  She left office on 10 th November 2011  Succeeded by Michael D. Higgins
