Mother Nature’s Artistry Beautiful Physical Features of the United States

What are Physical Features? Every place on the earth’s surface has features that distinguish it from other places on earth. Geographers divide theses features into either physical and human features. Physical features include landforms, bodies of water, climate, natural vegetation and soil.

Grand Canyon, Arizona  A large wildlife area in Arizona that looks like a giant hole in the ground.  In 1908, President Roosevelt Set aside the land and said that no one could build on it.  It is now a national park and is 277 river miles long, up to 18 miles wide, and one mile deep. .

Salton Sea- California  This body of water covers a surface area of 376 square miles, and is 51 feet deep at some places.  California’s largest lake.  It is a saline lake which means that it has a large amount of salt and other minerals in it.

The Great Salt Lake- Utah  The Great Salt Lake is the largest natural lake west of the Mississippi River. Mojave Desert  The Mojave Desert occupies a significant portion of Southern California and parts of Utah, Nevada, and Arizona.  Named after the Mohave Native Americans it occupies roughly 54,000 square miles.
