As sugar and flour come together to make A wonderful cookie creation that you bake, Parents and teachers join as one To create an educated daughter or son. It takes lots of love, caring and understanding But an individual will emerge who is special notwithstanding. We will work together to help each child bloom So they can grow and prosper as they learn in this room. So I share this little confection with you as I say I am committed to helping your child grow each and every day. Reading Block To better meet the needs of your child as a reader: Second graders will be put into differentiated reading groups. Students will be grouped based on data in flexible groups. Blocking allows teachers to better target your child’s specific reading needs and help them to reach their highest potential. Guided reading books will go home nightly. Please read and do any activities involving that book with your child each night and return signed the next day. Reading folders or bag Please encourage your child to read daily!

Homework reinforces what we are currently learning in class. A homework packet will go home every Friday in your child’s binder. The cover sheet will be posted on the classroom website page every week. In addition, four Spelling Menu activities must be completed every week. The weekly homework packet and Spelling Menu activities are due back the following Friday. Your child will also have nightly reading and a reading log from their reading block teacher. Students should read at least 20 minutes per night. Homework reinforces what we are currently learning in class.

Folders Binder Reading Folder or Bag Homework packet goes home every Friday Please sign the cover sheet Leave the Spelling Menu activities in the binder all quarter Homework needs to be returned by the following Friday Important work and school papers may be in the binder Newsletter will be posted on our classroom website Reading Folder or Bag Nightly reading books and possible assignments from reading block Reading Log HFW for the quarter Working Folder (in your child’s desk) Stays at school for assignments they are still “working on” and need to complete in their spare time Often times pieces are kept in there for later dates

Student Progress Progress reports sent home every 4 ½ weeks Report cards issued every 9 week Students will receive indicators: MS (Meets Standard) P (Progressing) AC (Area of Concern)
