 Instead of calling on God, the rulers called on Egypt and Assyria ( who could not heal)  God was about to chastise them  Vs WOE from straying from God  Destruction because of rebellion  No redemption because of lies  They will become a derision in the land of Egypt (I Kings 18:20-29)

 Theme: Forgot their God: Rejected good  Num. 18 and Ez. 33 Trumpets were blown for warning  How do WE sound the alarm? Knowing Him through the Word and telling others  Hosea 6:7 and 8:1 “They have transgressed My covenant”  Knowing Truth, instead of believing lies, is a safeguard against coming judgment

 Galatians 6 “Whatever a man sows, this he will also reap”  Israel claimed to know God: but didn’t listen  “My anger burns against them”  Vs. 10 Pul of Assyria, 2 Kings 15, was who they hired  Israel had forgotten His Maker

 Theme: Days of Punishment and Retribution have come  Vs. 1-6 Ephraim will return to Egypt  Because: Verses 7, 15 & 17  Of the grossness of their iniquity  Their hostility was so great  Of the wickedness of their deeds  They have not listened to God

 2 Kings 17 Hoshea was king of Israel  Ahaz was the wicked king of Judah  Shalmaneser was the king of Assyria  Shalmaneser imprisoned Hoshea for deceit  Deut. 28 Warnings:  Be careful……not to forget Me  The prophet was a fool vs. 7  They had gone deep into depravity vs. 9  Gibeah was a place of gross homosexuality

 Vs. 11 No birth, pregnancy or conception  Vs. 12 Though they bring up their children I will bereave them until not a man is left  Vs. 13 Ephraim will bring out his children for slaughter  Vs. 14 “Give them a miscarrying womb and dry breasts”  Vs. 16 Ephraim will bear no fruit even though they bear children. I will slay the precious ones of their womb

 Gilgal: place of 12 stones set up as a reminder from crossing the Jordan  Place of circumcision  God rolled away the reproach of Egypt  Became a place of evil and useless sacrifice  Hosea 9:15 God would love them no more and cast them away  They would be wanderers among the nations

 Theme: Israel shamed and carried away  Faithless  Forgotten their God  Mixed with the nations  Days ahead would be brutal  SEEK THE LORD  Vs. 12 Sow with a view to righteousness  Reap in accordance with kindness  Break up your fallow ground

 What happens when there is no knowledge of God in the land?  What causes the church to be ineffective?  What causes morals to be lost IN THE CHURCH?  “No moral doctrine, ‘Love thy neighbor as thyself’, does not come naturally; it has to be taught. It can only be taught if enough people understand the theories on which it rests and have the means of instilling the consequences into the popular mind.” Ravi Zacharias
