The Need for the Grave and the Resurrection A scriptural summary of what happens after death, and prior to Christ returning for His church. 1/12/2014 Wade Young

What do you believe about the moment after death? Where do I go when I die? Are the lost in torment prior to judgment? Am I in Heaven with Christ immediately after Death? When will I see my family again after death?

Is there a Biblical response that: Speaks clearly, not in parables. Uses language presented in the Old and New Testaments? Is easy to understand!

There is a unified response! Moses Job David Solomon Isaiah Daniel Jesus Paul John Could they all agree and if they do, should I?

Moses : Rest with fathers Gen 3:19 In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread Till you return to the ground, For out of it you were taken; For dust you are, And to dust you shall return.” Deuteronomy 31:16 And the L ORD said to Moses: “Behold, you will rest with your fathers; and this people will rise and play the harlot with the gods of the foreigners of the land, where they go to be among them, and they will forsake Me and break My covenant which I have made with them.

Job : The dead sleep Job 7:21 And why dost thou not pardon my transgression, and take away mine iniquity? for now shall I sleep in the dust; and thou shalt seek me in the morning, but I shall not be.

Job: Will not rise till last day Job 14: But man dies and is laid away; Indeed he breathes his last, And where is he? 11 As water disappears from the sea, And a river becomes parched and dries up, 12 So man lies down and does not rise. Till the heavens are no more, They will not awake, Nor be roused from their sleep. 13 “Oh, that You would hide me in the grave, That You would conceal me until Your wrath is past, That You would appoint me a set time, and remember me! 14 If a man dies, shall he live again? All the days of my hard service I will wait, Till my change comes. 15 You shall call, and I will answer You; You shall desire the work of Your hands.

David: In Sheol, do not remember Psalms 6:5 For in death there is no remembrance of You; In the grave who will give You thanks? Psalms 13:3 Consider and hear me, O L ORD my God; Enlighten my eyes, Lest I sleep the sleep of death; Psalms 16:10 For You will not leave my soul in Sheol, Nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption.

David : Dead are slient Psalms 104:29 You hide Your face, they are troubled; You take away their breath, they die and return to their dust. Psalms 115:17 The dead do not praise the L ORD, Nor any who go down into silence. Psalms 146:4 His spirit departs, he returns to his earth; In that very day his plans perish

Solomon : Dead know nothing Ecclesiastes 3:20 All go to one place: all are from the dust, and all return to dust. Ecclesiastes 9:5 For the living know that they will die; But the dead know nothing, And they have no more reward, For the memory of them is forgotten. Ecclesiastes 9:10 Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might; for there is no work or device or knowledge or wisdom in the grave here you are going. Ecclesiastes: 12:7 Then the dust will return to the earth as it was, And the spirit will return to God who gave it.

Isaiah: Dead do not speak Isaiah 26:19 Your dead shall live; Together with my dead body they shall arise. Awake and sing, you who dwell in dust; For your dew is like the dew of herbs, And the earth shall cast out the dead. Isaiah 38:18 For Sheol cannot thank You, Death cannot praise You; Those who go down to the pit cannot hope for Your truth.

Jesus: Was in grave, not Heaven Matthew 12:40 For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. John 20:17 Jesus said to her, “Do not cling to Me, for I have not yet ascended to My Father; but go to My brethren and say to them, ‘I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and to My God and your God.’”

Paul: Christ was First 1 Cor. 15:20-23 But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept. For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive. But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ’s at his coming.

John: No one has seen God John 1:18 No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him. John 14:3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you unto myself, that where I am, there you may be also.

Change is coming! 1 Cor. 15:51-52 Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed— in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

The Order Hebrews 9: And as it is appointed for men to die once, 2.but after this the judgment, so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation.

But wait!! Contradiction!? Revelation 6:9-11 When He opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain for the word of God and for the testimony which they held. 10 And they cried with a loud voice, saying, “How long, O Lord, holy and true, until You judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth?” 11 Then a white robe was given to each of them; and it was said to them that they should rest a little while longer, until both the number of their fellow servants and their brethren, who would be killed as they were, was completed.

Your Conclusion? I currently can not explain why the martyrs seem to have an exception to previous scriptures, even for a small time. However, I am not quick to accept a view contrary to what the majority of scriptures say for everyone else. Does one scripture disprove the death/sleep argument? If so, there are over 50 that disprove the “in heaven immediately” one. Is this the end of searching? No, only the beginning to an on going relationship. Keep looking. Test the scriptures daily.

The Wedding Feast The future bride is selected, and she accepts. The covenant sealed, and the price is paid. The groom to be leaves the bride to prepare a place. The grooms’ father announces when groom has finished with a trumpet blast. The groom returns for his bride. Does your understanding put the bride with the groom before the wedding?
