It’s time for Math Class! NOT AGAIN! Tyrooooon!!!
Long Division Mr. Skelly Grade 4 Bielefield Elementary
Today we will learn and be working on DIVISION. Hopefully we will get to do some “Hands-On” work. I love it when I get to use my hands!
Guys come back we are going to learn something new today. Why didn’t you say that in the beginning. I love to soak in new information.
I’m so Excited! I can’t wait to learn more math.
Let me go round up the gang!
Long Division Long division is as simple as memorizing SpongeBob and his friends. SpongeBob Gary Squidward Plankton Patrick
Long Division Each person represents a step in the long division process. 1. Divide 2. Multiply 3. Subtract 4. Bring down 5. Repeat or remainder SpongeBob Squidward Gary Plankton Patrick
Let’s Check our vocabulary first Quotient DividendDivisor
Step 1 in Long Division Divide 2 into the first number in the dividend. Think how many 2’s will fit into 7. Write that number directly above the number you divided into. 1. Divide How many 2’s will go into 7? SpongeBob
Step 2 in Long Division Multiply the divisor times the first number in the quotient. Write your answer directly under the 7 or the number you just divided. 2. Multiply x 3 = 6 Plankton
Step 3 in Long Division Draw a line under the 6. Write a subtraction sign next to the 6. Subtract 6 from 7. Write your answer directly below the Subtract Patrick
Step 4 in Long Division Go to the next number to the right of the 7. Write an arrow under the 2. Bring down the 2 next to the Bring Down Gary
Step 5 in Long Division This is where you decide whether you repeat the 5 steps of division. If your divisor can divide into your new number, 12, or if you have numbers that haven’t been brought down, you repeat the 5 steps of division. 5. Repeat or Remainder Squidward
Step 1 in Long Division Divide 2 into your new number, 12. Place your answer directly above the 2 in your quotient. 1. Divide SpongeBob
Step 2 in Long Division Multiply your divisor 2, with your new number in the quotient, 6. Place your answer directly under the Multiply 12 Plankton
Step 3 in Long Division Draw a line under the bottom 12. Draw a subtraction sign. Subtract & place your answer under the line. 3. Subtract Patrick
Step 4 in Long Division Look at your dividend to see if there are any more numbers to bring down. If not, move to step Bring Down Gary
Step 5 in Long Division Since there are no more numbers to bring down & 2 will not divide into 0, you do not repeat the steps of division. The number left over, if other than zero becomes the remainder Repeat or Remainder Squidward
SpongeBob You did it! You’re so Smart! You’re Awesome!
Yahoo! Let’s practice with some other problems. Right Now!
WHY ARE THEY SO MAD? ALL I SAID WAS LET’S PRACTICE A FEW PROBLEMS. WHAT WAS WRONG WITH THAT?
