Starter  What do you think is the difference between and output device and the output from a system? System output – the information being produced Output device – the device that produces the information E.g. An exam system may produce charts showing candidate number and marks (system output) which is printed from a laser printer (output device)

2.2 Selecting Output Devices INFO1 – Practical problem solving in the digital world

What should you consider before selecting a screen / monitor?  The main issues are: ◦ Screen size ◦ Screen resolution  Other considerations: ◦ What kind of image needs to be viewed? ◦ Where is it going to be viewed? ◦ Who is viewing the image? ◦ Internet access to the content.

 What type of monitor would you select for a web or graphic designer?  What about for an office worker?  Why?

 What device would you choose for a business man who needs to work on the move?  What about in a greasy / dirty environment e.g. food factory?

 How could you adapt a screen / monitor for someone who is partially sited?  How would you show an image to a large audience?  What would you use in a reception area of a company?

 What is to be printed?  How many documents?  What kind of media?  Who uses the printer?  Running costs?

 What would you choose for a solicitors office?  What would you choose for a graphics department of a web company?
