Presentation transcript:

Step 1: Click on the Library Catalog icon on the desktop Stept2: Select Connally under Middle Schools Step 3: Choose the type of search you want to do…..you do have choices

 Words or phrases- this looks for books that contains he search words you typed in or books that are about the search words you typed in, you should retrieve will retrieve fiction and non fiction  Author- You can type in the name of the author: last name first and then first name. This will reduce the number of titles that are retrieved.  Title- You can type in the title of the book you are looking for but spelling counts so be careful.  Subject- You can type in the subject or what the book is about. This type of search is good for nonfiction titles.  Series- You can type in the name of series, such as Cirque du Freak and the catalog will retrieve the title that the library own in a serious.

When you are looking for a nonfiction book, use the words not fiction after your search term. Example: airplanes not fiction. Doing this ensures that only books about airplanes are retrieved and not novels that have airplanes in the story. When looking for a novel about a particular subject, such as vampires, use the words and fiction after your search term. Example: vampires and fiction. Doing this ensures that only vampire novels are retrieved.

Call Number Availability of book Stack: General Collection- this means the book is on a shelf. Use the call number to locate the book.

I created this Power Point Presentation with the intention to review with students how to search the school catalog. I think it is important for students remember the different ways to search for resources.
