Do Now Please come in quietly and take your seats. Take out a half sheet of paper for the DO NOW and a pen or pencil Sit in Professional Posture

Do Now Using a paragraph format, describe your favorite type of cake. I want you to use at least 2 of the following in your description: 1. Metaphor3. Hyperbole 2. Simile4. Personification

Alphabet Books To improve our vocabulary and ensure we are comprehending the novel Firewing, you will make an alphabet book!! You will be in pairs, and each group will have 1-2 letters to complete. For each letter that you have, you will have the following: 1. T he letter of the alphabet 2. Your word 3. It’s meaning/definition (how would you explain it?) 4. A sentence using the word (this can be the sentence from the novel, but you must include the page number) 5. An explanation of why the word is important in the novel 6. A picture to accompany it You will have one hour to complete this!! I will pass out crayons, colored pencils, markers, novels, and dictionaries. Make this creative, neat, and colorful!! -Important note: You must look through the novel, and find an IMPORTANT word that starts with your letter. This word must be a main word that is significant to the meaning of the novel. -For example, the words echo chamber would be a good one to use. The word bat would not.

Example Page V: Vampire Definition: a corpse that rises at night to drink the blood of the living Sentence: Edward, a vampire in Twilight, is loved by many teenage girls. This sentence is important in the novel Twilight because many of its main characters are vampires, so readers must know what they are.

Read Firewing Before we begin reading, can someone summarize what happened in the first book in this series- Silverwing?

Do Now In 3-4 sentences, I want you to summarize our novel so far. Think about the important events from the beginning of the novel to what we have currently read.

Comprehension Activity Summarize what happens in the first chapter Why does Griffin want to steal fire? How are Griffin and Luna similar to Marina and Shade? Do you think Griffin is similar to Shade? Why or why not?
