“All I want for Christmas is You” By Aidan, Amy, Paul and Sophie

Our Idea: As a group, we came to the conclusion that we are going to shoot a Christmas video that includes all the generic conventions such as: A small, cosy family home A warm wooden lit fire place Decorations such as candle light, Tinsel and baubles Togetherness (giving and sharing) Presents and crackers Mistletoe Roast Turkey Dinner

The main focus of our video is not your typical boy and girl love story but about a cute dog that all he really wants for Christmas is his roast turkey dinner and his bone. Additional props will be used in order to create a Christmassy feel and environment. We decided to pursue this idea rather than others, as it is a unique idea in comparison to all of the typical Christmas videos nowadays. It will allow us to make a visually inventive video, with unusual camera angles and not your normal narrative.

The video will still retain the conventions of a Christmassy music video, but just have a subverted narrative. The main camera shot will be point of view and low angle using a wide angle bias from the dogs perspective, however we will be using other shots such as hand held camera and panning shots to establish it is Christmas.

Rejected Ideas: As a group, we decided on many different ideas for our music video. We discussed the idea of a cheesy pop band image, where we would include the stereotypical dance routines and themes of the music such as pop and RnB. However, as pop and RnB genres are such a big part of the music industry, we felt it would be too hard to find a song that would fit the idea we were going for.

Continued… When we eventually discussed and decided upon a Christmas song, our first thoughts were based on the song and video performed by WHAM! Another was Bing Crosby’s White Christmas, however this was too slow and old fashioned for the approach we were aiming for.

Last Idea Our last idea was to create a fictional snowman and his journey to find his long lost love. At the end the snowman and snowwomen come to the end of their winter romance and the audience see the pair melting together into a pool of ice. The video would have been too time consuming and complex for us to complete within our specific time schedule.

The image on the left is a low angle point of view shot in comparison to the image on the right that has been distorted using photo shop to mirror the type of shot we are looking for.

These shots represent the panning shots, they illustrate the start of the moving shots that we will be using throughout the video.

Props Christmas tree Decorations i.e. baubles, tinsel etc Lights Turkey Presents Fire place Cooker Costumes Packaging

Action Plan! We have decided that we are all going to star in the video (and a possible cameo from Neil!!) Aidan will be taking photographs for the storyboard We will all be taking turns in using the video camera Amy and Aidan will edit the film Sophie and Paul will be directing Amy and Sophie will be in charge of props

We are all going to work as a group to produce the story board (Aidan is the artist) Sophie is doing the risk assessment Amy is producing the contact list and meeting minutes Sophie is going to produce a ‘kitty list’ so as a group we know what our budget is
