Presentation transcript:

By Ben Goldbaum

 Frank Lloyd Wright was a world renowned architect, born in 1867 in Richland Center, Wisconsin. Sadly, Frank passed away in 1959, living to the amazing age of 91. However, he will be remembered forever in the architecture field.

 Louis Sullivan, one of Frank’s first bosses, believed that American architecture should idealize American function instead of European traditions. Louis Sullivan can be credited for the modern architecture that we know today.  Louis Sullivan

 Frank was the leader of what was known as the “Prairie Style” movement. Prairie houses consisted of a low-lying roof, with many simple, geometric shapes. The house was usually built around a central chimney.  Robie House

 Frank’s first few houses were very different than what he is known for today.  His first houses still had a large amount of Victorian style instead of what we know as modern architecture.

 One of those houses was his house in Oak Park, Illinois  He built it for his wife and himself, and as you will see, it is very Victorian in style, but it is one of the houses that made the transition to his new style

 In his later years, Frank’s motif became more nature oriented.  He developed the Usonian house, which was basically a middle income house, but very nature oriented. It was very low-lying, with many more large windows to let in sunlight

 Frank Lloyd Wright was one of the most impactful architects to ever live  Most modern houses that are built nowadays have some relation to Mr. Wright House on Barnyard Lane, Roslyn Heights Darwin D. Martin House

 Frank is most famous for the Guggenheim in Manhattan. The Guggenheim is usually his most credited masterpiece, due to it’s location and odd shape. The design is meant to have visitors take an elevator up and then walk down the spiral ramp.

 Falling Water is known to be his most famous and beautiful residential piece  It combines nature, cantilevers and simplicity, as well as showing Frank’s love for Japanese architecture

 In conclusion, we see that Frank Lloyd Wright lead a movement towards a new style of architecture, a style that would be remembered and used forever.  His unique way of combining simplicity with well thought out ideas, is what made his style world renowned.
