Operating Principle Transit Time Ultrasonic Flow Meter (Time of Flight) Typically operate within 1-2 MHz frequencies Pair of transducers, each containing a piezo-electric crystal One transducer transmits sound while the other acts as a receiver Signal transmitted upstream against the flow Then signal transmitted downstream
Operating Principle Difference in time is proportional to the flow velocity Flow volume is calculated by multiplying velocity by the cross-sectional area Transit time ultrasonic is for clean liquids only Particles disrupt signal

Selection Ultrasonic Flow Meter Selection (Key questions) Does the liquid have particulates of 100 ppm of 100 microns in size? Clean water < 3% (<12% UXF3) particulates content? Maximum and minimum flow rate for the process? Process temperature minimum and maximum? Is the pipe always full? (a must) Straight pipe recommendations met? Is it a coating/viscous liquid? (avoid)
