The Digestive System Patrick Gresham By

The Digestive System is one the 11 major organ systems in the human body that keep you alive. The Digestive System

The Digestive System is needed to survive because it breaks down the foods and liquids you swallow into smaller pieces so it can be absorbed by your body and used for energy Without it your body wouldn't have any energy Which pretty much means you would die The Digestive System

The Digestive System's main parts are the esophagus, stomach, liver, gall bladder, pancreas, small intestines, and large intestines. The Digestive System

Digestion is the mechanical and chemical breakdown of food into smaller components that are more easily absorbed The process of digestion in the human body starts with the mouth When you eat something edible like a hamburger for example The Digestive System

After you chew the hamburger up and swallow the hamburger it takes a journey through your esophagus After plummeting down your esophagus the hamburger will land in the stomach Where it will slowly be broken down by the hydrochloric acids The Digestive System

After being processed in the stomach the hamburger journeys to the small intestines This is where the majority of the digestion and absorption occur As it goes down the small intestines it meets small, finger- like structures called villi Villi, along with their epithelial cells are covered with numerous microvilli to improve the absorption of nutrients Then blood carrying the absorbed nutrients is travels from the small intestines and goes to the liver for filtering, removal of toxins, and nutrient processing The Digestive System

After the small intestines is through with the remains of the hamburger it enters the large intestines The food products that cannot go through the villi are mixed with other waste products from your body and become feces The feces are stored in the rectum and later on removed from the body through the anus The Digestive System
