Agenda Getting Ready During the Presentation After the Presentation Wimba Presentation Rubric Wimba Presentation Panel Next Steps

Oh, Where To Begin?! Share in the chat one or two questions, issues or concerns you have about Wimba and or webconferencing?

Getting Ready 1! Prepare your materials in advance (PowerPoint slides, and or any handouts) Include presenter(s) photo(s) Chunk your presentation - beginning, middle, & end Plan smooth transitions Use visuals - graphics, multimedia, etc. Incorporate a variety of activities

Getting Ready 2! Develop a protocol and a script Practice your presentation Upload your content into your Wimba Classroom Have websites open in a new tab ready to share Test drive the room Log in at least 30 minutes before start time

Getting Ready 3! Leading up to the webinar, send a reminder twice - once 1 day before the webinar and once 1 hour before the webinar. Remind participants to log in at least 15 mins. before start time. Tell them to have a headphone mike set. Present with a partner- this will provide you the opportunity to check voice, dial in, chat, and assist in monitoring the presentation.

Prepare Yourself Bio Break Glass of water Deal w/ distractions State of mind

Prepare Your Computer Close ALL unnecessary applications, especially Outlook, Instant Messenger, etc. since open applications can effect your bandwidth You do not want any personal or confidential info displayed You just don't want to interrupt the webinar with any notifications that pop up.

Prepare Your Room Use pre-webinar slides & announcements. Put up a slide that says something like "the webinar will begin in 10 minutes" so when people log in they know it is working OK, and then update it to show the actual time until the webinar starts. You should also make an announcement using voice every few minutes to let people know the webinar will start soon and their audio is working.

Prepare Your Audience Let the audience know in the introduction how you will be dealing with questions, chat, recording, microphones, etc. Orient students to interface When doing a desktop share, try not to move too quickly (or scroll up and down a web page too quickly). A refresh takes some time to complete based on the user's bandwidth. Plan on it taking about 5 seconds every time you change your screen for everyone to see the change.

Watch Your Time Set a start and end time Have a definitive "stop" to the core material (within the time allotted). It's ok to extend beyond the end time as long as the "officially scheduled program" has a clean end and those that need to leave can leave.

When to Begin Start 2 minutes past the hour. This gives people time to arrive a bit late, but does not make those on time wait too long. Starting on time helps people show up on time for future webinars.

During the Webinar Project an active, positive, welcoming persona Monitor the chat for questions and comments Alert audience to transitions Use humor Use Positive Reinforcement What else???

Use participants’ names Direct the audience’s attention Involve audience - volunteers, responses Assign tasks - Use the tools! Chat box White board Polls & surveys Breakout rooms Engage the Audience

After the Webinar Send out a recording and a copy of any presentation materials to people within 24 hours Tell them during the webinar you will do this. Fast follow-up helps you motivate people to take any next steps while the webinar is still on their mind.

Wimba Presentation Rubric Refer to the rubric handout Rubric can be found in the BeBOLD training course Strategies Tools Wimba Handbook in your BeBOLD notebooks

Wimba Presentation Panel Uploading PowerPoint Sharing files Polls and surveys Whiteboard Sharing desktop Using Chat Monitoring Attendees Using Emoticons

Next Steps Scheduling your presentations-on the BeBold wiki Presenting with a partner is encouraged Any questions?
