Plenary – Persuasive Language Competition

1 Being polite is something which has had its day and is no longer relevant in today’s fast moving society. Do you agree or not? Give your persuasive reasons.

2 It should be alright for a parent to read a child’s diary to check that the child is ok. Do you agree or not? Give your persuasive reasons.

3 Students at secondary school should be allowed to wear whatever jewellery they like as it is a personal expression of themselves. Do you agree or not? Give your persuasive reasons.

4 Parents watch over their children far too carefully these days. By not giving them freedom they are causing problems for later life. How can the child cope with the dangerous world when they have been overly protected? Do you agree or not ? Give your persuasive reasons.

5 The law should state that before you are allowed to keep an animal you should be inspected to check that you are going to be a fit and proper person to look after that animal. Do you agree or not? Give persuasive reasons.

6 Pensions should be paid to people at the beginning of their working life not at the end. They need it more at the beginning. Do you agree or not? Give persuasive reasons.

7 As students get older text books have less and less pictures and more and more writing. Text books should have just as many pictures for adults as they do for children because pictures teach better than words. Do you agree or not? Give persuasive reasons.
