ITC promotes the business perspective in the implementation of the TFA ITC initiatives build on through quantitate and qualitative analysis of business needs, and SMEs’ in particular Over 10,000 business interviewed in ITC Non-Tariff Measures surveys ITC has involved over 1,500 businesses in the categorization process of developing countries and LDCs Reflecting private sector needs from different areas: SMEs, sectorial associations, Chambers of Commerce, logistics service providers The ITC has given a strong position to the private sector in the 4 Trade Facilitation Committees it has established / strengthened 6
The ITC promotes SME-friendly methodologies for TFA implementation 7 Authorized Operators Enquiry points Electronic payment Design qualification criteria that can be met by SMEs Most existing AEO schemes automatically exclude smaller businesses Build capacity of SME to apply to the AO schemes Through dedicated awareness raising and training events Ensure services beyond capital/port city and in local languages Implementation of EP at border posts (including free terminals connected to the trade facilitation portal) EP Service in Swahili, not just English, at border posts in Tanzania Identify and implement payment methods which SMEs are more likely to use E.g. mobile money in Zimbabwe
