Plasma Wakefield Diagnostic on AWAKE using Photon Acceleration Muhammad Firmansyah Kasim Supervisor: Peter A. Norreys and Philip N. Burrows
Overview Goal: to determine the wakefield profile along the plasma (i.e. average amplitude along the propagation) Probe characteristics: 800 nm, 10 mJ, 12 ps Limitations: – Average wakefield amplitude 0.2 – Minimum polarizer extinction ratio: 1000:1 (for 100 mJ pump pulse) – Minimum optics’ damage threshold: < 1 J/cm 2.
Some technical considerations Put polarizers, transport optics, and stretcher in the laser room (when the laser diameter is about mm), so they can withstand with the laser intensity. Small extinction ratio? Add more polarizers.
Devices From us: – Spectrometer – FROG / GRENOUILLE – CCD camera From AWAKE: – Laser – Stretcher – Transport optics – Alignment system
