September 12 I can score 80% or higher on my Grammar quiz. I can score 80% or higher on my novel test. I can demonstrate my comprehension of a text. I can examine an object in multiple ways and write a reflection

Grammar  Grammar quiz

Vocabulary  You NEED to KNOW these words (not just memorize for the test)! We will begin to add new lists with old lists!!!  New List: 1.Adversity-misfortune 2.Asylum- sanctuary 3.Demagogue-rabble-rousing leader 4.Extenuating-guilt diminishing 5.Ephemeral-momentary, fleeting

The Great Gatsby Chapter 8  Humidor- a container or storage room for cigars  Indiscernible-cannot be seen or perceived clearly  Settee- a seat for two or more persons  In cahoots-in partnership  Divot-a piece of turf gouged with a club  Garrulous- excessively talkative in a rambling manner  Incoherent- disjointed; rambling  Conceivable-imaginable; believable  Forlorn- desolate or dreary  Laden- burdened; loaded down

The Great Gatsby Chapter 7 1.Name two turning points in the book. 2.What was the climax? 3.How does Gatsby react? 4.How does Tom react? 5.How does Nick feel about Gatsby at the end of chapter 7?

The Great Gatsby Homework  Read chapter 8.  Complete vocabulary.  Make sure that you have all parts of the color chart completed.

House on Mango Test  Put your answers on paper and then click in.  Chart your data!

13 Ways of looking at …  We are going on a trip….  We will be going outside around the building TOGETHER.  You will need to take a picture of an object that “speaks” to you.  You will need to take several different pictures of the same object from different angles.  If you do not have a phone, partner up with someone!  The goal of this assignment will be to take your object and react to what you see. Make observations about the pictures (how they turned out, what the object looked like from a particular angle).  From your observations you will free write until you develop an idea for your writing. We will revisit “Four Skinny Trees” and discuss Esperanza’s object and what it symbolizes. You could even borrow her first line… “______is the only thing that understands me.”  You will also need to include a reflection on what your symbol (or object) says about your identity or who you are.
