Acts 18:8-11 UNEXPECTED FERTILE GROUND

Sick people need a physician. Sinners need the Savior. Jesus came to save the unrighteous (Matthew 9:10-13). Imitate a hypocritical Pharisee or soul-saving Jesus? All men need saving (Romans 3:9-10).

Who knows the hearts of men? The Father, the Son and the Spirit (Matthew 9:4; Luke 16:15; John 2:25; Acts 1:24; 1 Corinthians 2:10). The Lord knew that there were many souls still to be saved in Corinth (Acts 18:8, 10). Faith comes from hearing Christ, and Corinthians needed to hear the gospel (Romans 10:14, 17). God opens (Matthew 7:7-8).

We do not know what kind of soul a man’s heart is until after we sow God’s seed. Beware of judging unrighteously like the world. Simon the Zealot (Luke 6:15)? Simon the sorcerer (Acts 8:13)? Sergius Paulus the proconsul (Acts 13:12)? Saul the persecutor (Acts 9:1, 18)? A fornicator, a homosexual, a thief or a drunkard (1 Corinthians 6:9-11)?

We do not know what kind of soul a man’s heart is until after we sow God’s seed. There are different kinds of hearts, but all still need seed sown in them (Luke 8:11-15). “Beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest” (Luke 10:1-2). “…the workers are few” Paul planted; Apollos watered (1 Corinthians 3:6). All are called to work – cultivators, sowers, waterers, tenders or pruners.
