“An industrial accident causing environmental damage” SEVESO DISASTER “An industrial accident causing environmental damage”

Where and When? In Brianza. It’s an area near Milan in north Italy. - 10 July 1976 at 12:37 pm.

What’s happened? A factory in the area break down a chemical reactor and spranging a toxic cloud of dioxin. Contaminating a lot of surrounding areas. Dioxin is one of the most dangerous toxic substances in the world.

Only 8 days after the tragedy the people were informed! Fortunately there were no deaths among people but there are many cases of dermatosis. Thousands of plants and animals were killed to prevent populations contamination.

The disaster effects? The people health is still studied It’s, however, certain that the percentage of tumors in those areas has significantly increased. In 1976 the abortion in Italy was not allowed, but the government granted to women affected by the tragedy for therapeutic reasons

The conclusion with a question: Do we believe that technological development is for the man (and for the environment!) an advantage
