Compound and Compound-Complex Sentences

Complex Sentences A complex sentence has one main clause and one or more subordinate clauses. Examples  The subordinate clause is BOLD  The main clause is underlined  If you study the development of music, you will learn that music has been heavily influenced by society.  When you listen to a song, you should think about the culture that influenced it.

Compound-Complex Sentences A compound-complex has two or more main clauses and at least one subordinate clause. Examples  The subordinate clause is BOLD  The main clause is underlined  Billie Holiday, who lived from 1915 to 1959, grew up in a poor family, and she became a famous jazz singer.
