 At the end of this lecture the student will be able to:  Identify the stages of illness &the role of the nurse during each stage.  Describe the significance of the patient’s need for onclusion,control &affection during his or her adaptation to illness. 2

 Specify nursing strategies that are appropriate for assisting patient to develop & maintain a positive self image &body image.  Explain the emotions of anxiety, anger,hostility&grief. 3

 Use nursing process as framework for care of the patient with emotional reaction to illness& treatment.  Assess the significance of role changes that result from illness.  Identify nursing action that promote effective coping strategies. 5
