Summer Writing Assignment The Summer Writing Assignment will be your first graded assignment. It will be used to give you a baseline knowledge of your abilities. You will receive feedback from: 1) yourself 2) peers 3) me.

Summer Writing Assignment You probably fall into ONE of Three Situations: 1)Not Complete – Unsure of the task and/or the readings. 2)Attempting but Incomplete – you understand the task, but need more time to work on it. 3)Complete – you finished it.

Group Three (Completed the Assignment) You will get a bonus score for having the assignment done on-time. For today, you’re going to perform a self- assessment, and you’re going to give and/or receive peer-feedback. If you finish these tasks early, you’re going to help others with their assignments. Group Two (Incomplete—Need More Time) 1) You’re going to go to a computer and continue working on the assignment. 2) If you need another copy of the assignment, please get one from me. 3) If you need a NY Times article, see me as well. 1) You’re going to go to a computer and continue working on the assignment. 2) If you need another copy of the assignment, please get one from me. 3) If you need a NY Times article, see me as well.

Group One (Didn’t do it – Didn’t understand it) 1) You’re going to stay with me and we’re going to review the primary reading (from Plato’s Phaedrus). 2) You’re going to also read an article from the NY Times that you need to complete the assignment. 3) I’ll clarify any issues with respect to the task/prompt. 1) You’re going to stay with me and we’re going to review the primary reading (from Plato’s Phaedrus). 2) You’re going to also read an article from the NY Times that you need to complete the assignment. 3) I’ll clarify any issues with respect to the task/prompt.

The Task 1) Write an argument about the effects of social media and digital technology on writing and communication. 2) In order to do this, you need to read two texts: a) excerpt from Plato’s Phaedrus b) an article from the NY Times. 3) Your argument needs to incorporate ideas from these primary texts (2-3 each).

Where to Start? 1)Let’s go to the texts. 2)First, let’s begin with Plato’s Phaedrus. 3)Before you begin reading, however, you should preview the text and take down some preliminary notes.

Plato’s Phaedrus 1) This is what is known as a “Socratic Dialog” 2) A dialog is a conversation, usually between a character and an interlocutor (someone who asks questions). * 3) The questioner is often times Socrates, the great Greek philosopher sometimes known as the “father of knowledge” in the Western world. 1) This is what is known as a “Socratic Dialog” 2) A dialog is a conversation, usually between a character and an interlocutor (someone who asks questions). * 3) The questioner is often times Socrates, the great Greek philosopher sometimes known as the “father of knowledge” in the Western world.
