Ocean currents Surface Currents Gyres Effect Land Upwelling Driven By Wind they move warm water away from the equator and cold water towards the equator. (Label warm currents on your map that move near America and south america) Make Gyres There are 5 major circular currents found in the ocean called gyres The warm N. Atlantic current provides warm air for England, while the cold S. Atlantic current keeps South Africa cool.( Circle England in Red and South Africa in blue) Effect Land Coastal Winds Winds blowing off of a coast will remove the surface layer and the cold water rises to take its place bringing important nutrients. Circle where this occurs the most Upwelling With Evaporation and cold water- causes an increase in salinity causes water to sink, upwelling causes water to rise which creates a network of world wide currents called the Evaporation and Rain
