Common Core Standards Addressed! CCSS.ELA-Literacy.SL a Come to discussions prepared, having read and researched material under study; explicitly draw on that preparation by referring to evidence from texts and other research on the topic or issue to stimulate a thoughtful, well-reasoned exchange of ideas. CCSS.ELA-Literacy.SL b Work with peers to promote civil, democratic discussions and decision-making, set clear goals and deadlines, and establish individual roles as needed. CCSS.ELA-Literacy.SL c Propel conversations by posing and responding to questions that probe reasoning and evidence; ensure a hearing for a full range of positions on a topic or issue; clarify, verify, or challenge ideas and conclusions; and promote divergent and creative perspectives. CCSS.ELA-Literacy.SL d Respond thoughtfully to diverse perspectives; synthesize comments, claims, and evidence made on all sides of an issue; resolve contradictions when possible; and determine what additional information or research is required to deepen the investigation or complete the task.

Leadership is Influence – John C. Maxwell the ability to obtain followers Objective 2 HS 1 TM A

Review HS 1 TM B What Leadership Characteristics Are Most Important To You? Decision Maker? Understanding? Takes Risks? Goals? Creative? Courageous? Responsible? Honest? Loyal? Confident? Energetic? Friendly? Humor? Adaptable?

Review HS 1 TM B Definition of Leadership Leadership is Influence The ability to obtain followers. Leadership is the ability to move the hearts and minds of your followers.

Examples of Daily Leadership Opportunities  Listen to a friend who may have a problem.  Encourage a teammate.  Sincerely compliment someone.  Help a friend study for a test.  Take charge of a committee in FFA.  Volunteer to do community service.  Pick up some trash you find in the school hallway.  Help a person in need. Review HS 1 TM B

Being on a “Mission” is not the same as a “Mission Statement.” Following your “Mission Statement” will provide a goal for your leadership!

Does your personal mission statement impact other people? Is your mission statement “serving” or “self serving”? Does your Mission Statement truly fit you, does it fit your personality? Are you comfortable with your mission Statement? Will your personal mission statement make you a more effective leader, happier individual or both?

Classroom Activities Working individually write your own Mission Statement. Working in small groups write the Mission statement for your Agriculture Education class. Write another Mission Statement for your local FFA chapter. Teacher assigned activities at this time!

The End!
