Presentation transcript:

1.Protective layer to the skin against physical damage 2.As a barrier to disease organisms like fungi and bacteria 3.Helping animals retain their body heat 4.Camouflage for protection against predators 5.Protection against harmful UV or ultraviolet rays from the sun 6.Waterproofing 7.Reptiles possess a protective layer of horny scales that helps prevent water loss from their body 8.Hair forms an insulating cover. Glands in the mammalian skin release oils which help to keep the fur waterproof and offer protection against rain and the cold. 9.Whales and dolphins contain an insulative layer of blubber under their skin.

1.Fish, snakes, crocodiles, lizards, birds’ feet 2.Snake scales are dry and not slimy 3.The scales on a snake are of different sizes and shapes 4.Scales help in snakes move and to grip prey 5.Why does a snake moult/change its skin? 6.Scales protects from wear and tear

1.Every bird has a layer of feathers covering its skin 2.Feathers keep birds warm and help them to fly 3.Feathers also prevent birds from getting wet on rainy days 4.Male birds usually have bright and colourful feathers to help them attract its partner 5.All birds have a pair of wings

1.Animals like man, sheep and polar bear have hair on their bodies 2.Man has very little hair which is not enough to keep him warm 3.Sheep and polar bears has long and thick coat of hairs which can trap air and prevent body heat from being lost 4.Porcupine and hedgehog have hard, spiky and sharp hair that protect them from enemies 5.A dense soft covering of hair may be called fur or wool. 6.Elephants, rhinos and hippos have only a sparse /thinly spread covering of hair over their thick, leathery skins

1.Animals like the crab, tortoise and shellfish have shells. Shellfish is an aquatic invertebrate animal with a shell, especially an edible mollusk or crustacean such as an oyster, shrimp, or lobster 2.In times of danger, they will quickly hide the soft and sensitive parts of their bodies in the hard shell
