What is it and where does it come from

OIS provides IT Process Automation (ITPA), also known as Run Book Automation (RBA), which is the ability to orchestrate and integrate IT management tools through policies. ITPA can reduce costs, simplify management and optimize resources through: Multi-vendor integration, no rip & replace or vendor lock-in Pre-built activities & workflow processes to speed time to value Replaces manual, resource-intensive, and error-prone activities Configuration of workflows is done without coding or scripting Intelligent workflows with rule-based branching Automation that spans multiple IT components, disciplines and silos Introduction to OIS

How Are Customers Using OIS? (c) 2011 Microsoft. All rights reserved. Automate provisioning, resource allocation and retirement Extend virtual machine management to the cloud Virtual Machine Life- Cycle Management Orchestrate incident management and resolution Integrate across monitoring tools, service desks, and configuration management databases (CMDBs) Incident Management Automate CI updates in the CMDB Create new objects and relationships between objects Service Manager : CMDB Automation

How we build Policies & Workflows ► Planning / Designing a Workflow – Identify root problem to be solved – Ask questions about why it’s done this way – Map the process in the OIS Client – Verify the logic ► Building a Workflow – Step 1: Create a new Policy – Step 2: Add Objects – Step 3: Fill out the Object Form – Step 4: Link the Objects Together – Step 5: Test your Policy – Step 6: Check in your Policy – Step 7: Start your Policy (c) 2011 Microsoft. What if we need it to do a different thing

Quick Integration Kit Command Line Interface Wizard (QIK CLI Wizard) Package CLI Commands into Deployable Objects The QIK CLI Wizard enables the ability to encapsulate commands, arguments and parameters based on various configurations Resulting object is a Microsoft.NET 2.0 Framework DLL The Invoke.NET object can be used to test the resulting DLL generated Command Line Modes: Run Command Run Windows PowerShell Run Program Run SSH Command

From Compiled Resources to Packaged QIK IPs The QIK Wizard and QIK Objects deliver complementary functionality for extending OIS To create a group of objects that each perform a different operation, but are related in some way To group objects in the Palette and provide unique icons You want to deploy to multiple Action Servers or Clients Use for production scenarios Use QIK Wizard : You want to test interaction with a class before developing an Integration Pack Use Invoke / Monitor.NET objects when:
