Ratio Notes A ratio is a comparison of two numbers by division. Each number in a ratio is called a term. Ratios can be written three ways and SHOULD ALWAYS.
Fractions as Ratios and Proportions A "ratio" is just a comparison between two different things. For instance, someone can look at a group of people, count.
RATIOS OF SCALE DRAWINGS. SCALE DRAWINGS SCALE DRAWINGS: A scale drawing is a drawing that represents a real object. The scale of the drawing is the ratio.
Ratio Comparison of two numbers Expresses the relative size of two quantities as the quotient of one divided by the other Written in 3 ways: a:b or a/b.

Ratios and rates Ratio Rate Scale Scale Drawing Fraction Equivalent Solve Problem Receive Distance Floor plan This topic has 11 key words:

Ratio Definition: A ratio compares numbers in a set order. Example: The ratio of men to women in the green box is 3:1. The ratio of women to men in the green box is 1:3.

Rate Definition: Rates compare things that are measured differently. Example: A woman walks 5km (distance) in 1 hour (time). This is written 5km / h.

Scale Definition: Scale is a ratio of the size of something compared to the size of something else. Example: This toy car is 4cm long. The real car is 400cm long. The scale is 4:400. This is the same as 1:100.

Scale Drawing Definition: A drawing where all parts are a certain amount smaller than the real thing. Example: In this drawing of a horse, all parts of the drawing are 10 times smaller than the real horse.

Fraction Definition: A part of a whole. Example: The whole pizza below has 4 slices. Someone has taken 1 slice. Three slices are left on the plate. The fraction of the whole pizza that is on the plate is ¾.

Equivalent Definition: The same as something else. Example: The ratio of circle A that is shaded is 1:2. The ratio of circle B that is shaded is 2:4. 1:2 is equivalent to 2:4. Circle ACircle B

Solve Definition: To find out something new. Example: Solve the equation to find y. 2 + y = y = 1 We solved this equation and found that y = 1.

Problem Definition: Something that we need to find an answer for. Example: 2 cans of coke cost $2. How much does one can of coke cost? This is a problem. Can you find the answer? $2?

Receive Definition: To get something. Example: Bob will receive $100 for the work he is doing in the garden.

Distance Definition: How far it is from one point to another. Example: The distance from Sydney to Brisbane is about 1000km.

Floor Plan Definition: A drawing of a building of the floor of a building which is done to scale. Example: This floor plan shows a house with three bedrooms.
