A word about Split Brain Patients Life is not necessarily difficult for split brain patients. In fact, the patients only experience difficulty in the first few months after surgery. As time passes, the “two separate minds” begin to figure out how to work together. Split-brain patients do receive visual fields, so the abnormalities are only noticeable in specialized laboratory conditions.

Splitting the Brain Please turn to page 83 and read about “Our Divided Brain”

Hemispheric Specialization Left Hemisphere is primarily responsible for matters of language, symbols, logic, and mathematics. Right Hemisphere (sometimes called the more creative hemisphere) responds to spatial, musical, and emotional kinds of stimuli.

Are the following activities R or L Brain Activities? 1) Studying Psychology 2) Drawing a map of campus 3) Daydreaming about your next trip 4) Listening to a Piano Concert 5) Listening to Rap Music 6) 6 x 4-2=5= 7) Redecorating your room 8) Doodling 9) Completing this activity

From our text… Look at the center of one face, then the other. Which of these faces looks happier?

Most people say that the face on the right looks happier. Researchers believe this because our right hemisphere, which is skilled in emotion processing receives information from the left half of each face.

3B GROUP WORK REVIEW Page 93 FRQ You have been hired to write and direct short, educational films covering different brain injuries. In five short paragraphs, explain five ideas you have for scripts. In each case, create a character who has suffered a brain injury. Include the name of the brain part injured and a description of the loss of function that occurs as a result of the injury.
