Rules #1-3 Review 1. “You don’t want a piece?” asked my brother as he started devouring the pizza. To which I replied, “No, I am on a diet.” 2. My favorite colors are blue, green and orange. 3. While you were wasting your time watching TV I was studying for the test. That’s why I go an “A” on it and you got a “D.” 4. Bill turned 60 years old on Tuesday, Dan was jealous of his gift. ARE THE FOLLOWING SENTENCES PUNCTUATED CORRECTLY?

Introductory Elements (#4)  Use a comma to set off introductory elements.  Showing complete disregard for traffic laws, the man in the minivan was going 90 mph and driving in the wrong direction. If the introductory element is brief and the sentence can be read easily without the comma, it can be omitted.  In 2010 your guidance counselor hooked you up with the best English teacher in the history of the universe. When it seems to modify the entire sentence and not just the verb or some single element in the rest of the sentence, put a comma after it.  Finally, the day ended.

Coordinate Adjectives (#5)  Coaches grew weary of running practices in the drafty, dilapidated gymnasium. If you could put a but or an and between the adjectives, you should put a comma between them.  The designs for an expensive, modern gym should make them happy.  The designs for an expensive and modern gym should make them happy.
