Key Components O Oral Communication O Reading and Viewing O Writing and Representing

Intensive French Themes 1. Moi (me, my family, food, clothing) 2. Les passes-temps (hobbies, sports, music) 3. Les animaux (domestic/wild animals) 4. Les voyages (travel across Canada)

Intensive French Homework O Your child will not be assigned regular French homework but will occasionally be required to finish an assignment, read a text or book, or gather materials from home. If they have a book to read at home, it is one they are comfortable and familiar with O Please be assured that you, as parents/ guardians, are not expected to be able to speak French in order to help your child complete any given homework.

This year in Math… We will be working on solving problems, thinking logically and critically, exploring possibilities, sharing and explaining our thinking by talking, writing and drawing, and making connections between everyday experiences and the skills and ideas learned in math class.

This year in ELA… English Language Arts outcomes will be cross-curricular, meaning they will be done in other subject areas as well as in ELA. During the Intensive French block, the teacher models reading strategies while completing read alouds and shared reading of French materials (English outcomes).

This year in Social Studies… O Place and Environment (ancient society) -The relationship between place, environment and change in societies over time O Social Structure (middle ages) -Examining how social structures inform us about societies

This year in Science… O Properties and Changes in Materials -Exploring the properties of solids, liquids, and gases -The range of physical and chemical changes -Notice how a substance’s properties remain the same or are changed O Forces and Simple Machines -Explore the effect of forces on motion -Become familiar with their designs and their advantages
