Vocabulary list 6 Definitions, Parts of Speech, and Example Sentences

To Expropriate (verb) DEF: To deprive of possessions or property rights. To distribute someone’s possessions to others. RELATED PARTS OF SPEECH: Expropriated, adjective Expropriation, noun EX. SENTENCE: Capitalists were shot, and their land expropriated to the state during the revolution.

Stratified (adj) DEF: Arranged in layers. RELATED PARTS OF SPEECH: Stratification, noun Stratify, verb EX. SENTENCE: The society is stratified, and very rigidly stratified, on what at first appear to be hereditary lines.

Feral (adj) DEF: Wild and menacing RELATED PARTS OF SPEECH: EX. SENTENCE: One minute more, and the feral roars of rage were again bursting from the crowd.

Hierarchical (adj) DEF: Classified according to various criteria into levels or layers. RELATED PARTS OF SPEECH: Hierarchy, noun Hierarchically, adv. EX. SENTENCE: After the revolution, The Party arranged society hierarchically, keeping power in the hands of a few who rule over a majority.

Febrile (adj) DEF: Having or showing the symptoms of a fever. Having or showing a great deal of nervous excitement or energy. RELATED PARTS OF SPEECH: EX. SENTENCE: Late at night, when crowds of rowdy proles roamed the streets, the town had a curiously febrile air.

To Disseminate (Verb) DEF: To spread about RELATED PARTS OF SPEECH: Dissemination, noun Disseminated, adj. EX. SENTENCES: The internet allows us to disseminate information faster and to more remote areas of the world than ever before.

Fecundity (noun) DEF: The quality of being fertile; capable of producing offspring. RELATED PARTS OF SPEECH: Fecund, adj. EX. SENTENCE: The continuation of the party depends on the fecundity of its members, on their ability to produce offspring who will become loyal party members.

To Deprecate (Verb) DEF: To express strong disapproval of. To criticize or to put down. RELATED PARTS OF SPEECH: Deprecatory, adj. Deprecatorily, adv. EX. SENTENCE: Movie critics tried to outdo one another in deprecating the comedy as the stupidest movie of the year.

Titular (adj) DEF: Relating to the title of something; existing in title only, but not requiring any of the duties, functions, or responsibilities of an office. RELATED PARTS OF SPEECH: EXAMPLE SENTENCE: Oceania has no capital, and its titular head is a person whose whereabouts nobody knows and whom no one can remember ever remembering seeing.

Fatuous (adj) DEF: Devoid of intelligence RELATED PARTS OF SPEECH: Fatuousness, noun Fatuously, adverb EX. SENTENCE: Because of his stupidity, Parsons is known for his fatuous comments and his overly eager physicality.
