DEFINITION: Parts of speech refers to the meaning based classification and description of different types of words used in a sentence. PARTS OF SPEECH

KINDS OF PARTS OF SPEECH  NOUN.  PRONOUN.  ADJECTIVE.  VERB.  ADVERB.  PREPOSITION.  CONJUNCTION.  INTERJECTION.  MIKELJECTION.

NOUN DEFINITION: A noun is the name of any thing.

GRAMMATICAL FUNCTION OF THE NOUN  The subject of a verb:John came here.  The object of a verb: He is John.  The complement of a verb: I know John.  The object of a preposition: I spoke to John.  A noun can also be in the possessive case: This book is John’s.  Case in apposition: My friend, John came yesterday.

PROPER NOUN A proper noun is the name of a particular person, place or thing.

PROPER NOUN  Personal Names: Mr Robert, Dr Johnson,Clinton etc.  Calendar Names:Chrismas Day,Independence day etc.  Geographical Names:Asia, Bangladesh,Dhaka etc.  Name + Common Noun: Dhaka University,Trg Wg etc.  Proper Noun with definite airticle:The Tajmahal,The Ittefaq.  Proper Noun with pre-modifier:The old king Lear,The new Delhi  Proper noun with post- modifier:The Bay of Bengal,The University of Dhaka.

COMMON NOUN A common noun refers to an indefinite person, place or thing. Example: Village, River, Girl etc.

MATERIAL NOUN A material noun refers to matter or substances whether solid or liquid as a whole. Example: Solid (Sugar, gold, wood, copper) Liquid(Oil,milk,water,butter)

COLLECTIVE NOUN A collective noun refers to a collection of people, animals or things of the same kind as a whole. Example: Class, audience, committee, infantry etc.

ABSTRACT NOUN An abstract noun refers to a quality,state or action of anything. Example:Plan,illness,imagination etc.
