All About Light

Why does the straw look bigger in the water? Because water magnifies the size of an image. Because light travels slower through the water than through the air. Our eyes see the image of the straw above the water quicker than We see the image of the straw below the water. Why does this straw look disconnected?

Objects that let all light pass through are called…? Transparent Objects that let some light pass through are called…? Translucent Objects that allow no light to pass through are called…? Opaque

Which picture shows best the path that light travels? A B C A: Light always travels In a straight line!

What is Refraction? Refraction is when light is bent in different directions. Refracting light with a prism allows us to see the colours in the colour spectrum.

Why do we see rainbows? We see light because sun light is refracted By the rain drops in the sky.

What is Dispersion? Dispersion is when light is scattered Out in all directions.

What are the two types of light sources? Natural Artificial Sun firefly lightening flashlight monitor light bulb What about the moon? The moon is not luminous. It is not a source of light. We see the moon because the light from the sun is reflecting off the surface of the moon.

Can you name each type of lens? Concave Convex Which lens makes an Image appear larger and closer? Which lens makes an Image appear smaller and far away? Convex Lens Concave Lens

What is white light? Light is actually made up of the 7 colors of the color spectrum. What are the colors of the color spectrum? Red Orange Yellow Green Blue Indigo Violet

Why does this apple look Red? The apple appears red because it Contains red pigment. When a light Source hits the apple, the apple absorbs All the colors in the color spectrum except For the red. That red light is reflected Back to our eyes!
