Learn the Terms Refer to Chapter 12 for the answers  sustainable prosperity  sustainable development  Privatization  climate change  Enabling the sale of government owned industries to private businesses.  Meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.  A new balance of economic competition with economic cooperation that promotes the efficient use and sharing of natural resources, technologies and capital at the local, national and global levels. Long-term change in the earth's climate, due to an increase in the average atmospheric temperature. Melting glaciers imply that life in the Arctic is affected by climate change.

What is Sustainable Prosperity? Here are a couple of definitions…

Sustainable prosperity…  In short, “Sustainable prosperity” would come as a result of sustainable development that enables all human beings to live with their basic needs met, with their dignity acknowledged, and with abundant opportunity to pursue lives of satisfaction and happiness, all without risk of denying others in the present and the future the ability to do the same. This means not just preventing further degradation of earth’s systems, but actively restoring those systems to full health.  World Watch Institute  How can this be achieved?

How does globalization reduce Sustainable Prosperity? Two examples are provided on the next slide…
