People are given support and information to help them make decisions and meet their goals The government want all local authorities to have a set number of people using personalised services by 2011

What is self directed support? People First Programme In the old system, professionals made all the decisions about the support people could have. Self directed support is a new way of making sure people are in control of the support they need to live their life as they choose.

The council decide what your personal budget is by looking at the Self assessment questionnaire Some people manage their support on their own. Others need help - from family or friends or people who are paid to help.

A support plan is where you decide what is important to you and what you would like to change in your life A support plan will look at what’s working and not working for you and what support you need to make things better A support plan does not have to be complicated; you can make it as detailed or simple as you want.
