MARTIN HIGH SCHOOL Dual Enrollment

Dual Enrollment Laws Postsecondary Enrollment Options Act (PA 160 of 1996) Career and Technical Preparation Act (PA 258 of 2000)

Qualifying Scores Student MUST achieve qualifying score in subject area to take a course in that subject area. Courses in computer science and foreign language not offered by the district do not have any qualifying scores requirements

Administrative Rule Rule 5 (2) The acts do not prohibit a district from supporting any pupil regardless of eligibility under these acts.

Course Limits 4 Years3 Years Grade 92 Classes Grade 102 Classes Grade 112 Classes4 Classes Grade 124 Classes Not More than 10 Courses Overall!

Eligible Student Enrolled in at least 1 high school class in a public school district. Must have at least 1 parent or legal guardian who is a resident of the state. Must not have been enrolled in high school for more than 4 schools years Must have letter signed by the student’s principal indicating dual enrollment eligibility Must sign a student responsibility agreement

Eligible Course Offered for postsecondary credit Not offered at students high school or unavoidable scheduling conflict Subject area other than PE, theology divinity, or religious education Student must have achieved qualifying score in each subject area Considered an academic course  Not a hobby, craft, or recreational course

Eligible Charges Martin Public Schools is in agreement to pay $721 per course. This agreement covers….. Tuition Mandatory course fees and registration fees Material fees, including books  Books become property of the school after completion of course Transportation fees, parking fees, and activity fees are NOT eligible charges Costs will be covered up to a certain dollar amount, determined by the state, each year. If the costs exceed that amount the parents are responsible to make up the difference in cost.

What If the Student Fails? MCL (10) and MCL (10) States that the eligible student shall repay the school district any funds that were expended by the school district for the course that are not refunded to the school district by the eligible postsecondary institution… the school district may impose sanctions against the eligible student as determined by school district policy.

Things To Consider Academic Readiness: Qualifying assessment scores College Readiness: Social maturity and personal responsibility College Transcript will begin! Student needs to meet according to the college academic schedule, holiday breaks may not align. If Martin High School does not have school but the college/university is in session, student is expected to attend. This includes snow days or delays. Be sure to check the michigantransfernewtwork.org or call the admissions office at the schools you are interested in attending upon graduation to see if the credits will transfer.

continued Withdrawing or failing classes can impact your eligibility for Federal Financial Aid. You must provide your own transportation unless you plan to attend the Early College Academy at the Tech Center. Apply Early!
