Designing the Perfect Phone™ Meet as design teams this evening Interim design report due by 9:00 p.m. EDT tonight – Submit by Final design report due next week, Tuesday, November 2 Teams will make short presentations (at most 10 minutes long) next week. – Describe design – Explain basis for design choices – Describe task flow – Show screen shots of interface

Designing the Perfect Phone™ (2) Your challenge: Create the user interface design for an app that will be installed on the Perfect Phone ™ to accomplish the assigned task. Specify the syntax and semantics of its interface widgets Instructor will play the role of consultant, user (naïve or expert), interface critic, or venture capitalist. Assume that the Perfect Phone ™ is in an initial state that allows access to its installed apps through a gesture or tap. Think broadly about the task and project several years into the future. Your solution should not be a direct copy of an existing app.

Designing the Perfect Phone™ (3) Being as creative as possible Develop a task analysis Use a State Transition Network (see Dix) or other models as appropriate Implement a prototype of the design (implement can mean “screen shots” or a running program) Analyze the prototype in light of the GUEPs, CDs, design principles, frameworks, and theories. Use other ideas from course as appropriate to justify your design.

Designing the Perfect Phone™ (4) Team P (David, Gerry, Ivan) : Move information (content) from the Perfect Phone ™ to a website or other device so that the information can be used in a different context. Conversely, move information or additional functionality to the Perfect Phone ™ Team R (Matt, Vinay, Vince) : Display, and perhaps change or sense, features of the environment in which the Perfect Phone ™ is embedded. The concept of “environment” should be understood as broadly as possible.

Next Time Present 10-minute report on the design of the user interface for your app for the Perfect Phone ™
