Introduction to Clinical Chemistry MLCC-203 Department of Medical Laboratory Technology Faculty of Allied Medical Science By Dr. Eman El-Attar

Outcome By the end of this lecture, the students will have an overview, importance and contents of Clinical Chemistry course

Clinical Chemistry It applies chemical, molecular and cellular techniques to understand and evaluate of human health and disease

Clinical chemistry is involved in the study & measurment of chemical composition of blood & other body fluids as urine, CSF, pleural and peritonial fluids Examples of biochemical components include lipids, enzymes, electrolytes, substrates and proteins

By the end of this course, students will be able to 1- Practice manual & automated routine & complex analytical procedures 2- Emphasis on accuracy of test performance, use of instruments, result interpretation, problem solving 3- Apply theoretical principles to clinical laboratory situations 4- Perform highly qualified blood sampling

Recommended Textbooks Illustrated textbook of clinically chemistry, William J. Marshall Tietz Textbook of Clinical Chemistry and Molecular Diagnostics, 5 th edition
